A 15W wireless charger delivers up to its declared maximum only when the phone, charging pad, power adapter and cable support the required combination. The phone may accept less, and alignment, case thickness, battery state and temperature can reduce actual power. Compare exact certified models and complete kits rather than assuming every “15W” pad charges every phone at 15W.

15W Is a Maximum, Not a Universal Result
The number on a wireless charger describes a declared maximum under specified conditions. It does not establish the power accepted by an unlisted phone. Some Qi products and the original Qi2 consumer tier can be associated with power levels up to 15W, but certification, version and compatibility must be checked for the exact model.
Actual power may taper as the battery fills or when thermal management responds. A charging screen icon also does not prove a numeric wattage. Use suitable measurement equipment and a declared test method when a quantified result matters.
Match the Charger to the Exact Phone
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Exact charger model | Matches the WPC certification record and listed version |
| Phone documentation | States supported wireless mode and maximum |
| Case and camera bump | Can change distance or coil alignment |
| Magnetic accessories | May align correctly, misalign the coils or add obstruction |
Search the Wireless Power Consortium database by exact brand and model. A magnetic ring or the word “compatible” is not a substitute for a certification record. For the distinction between the original Qi2 tier and the newer 25W generation, see the Qi2 power-generation guide.
The Adapter and Cable Feed the Wireless Stage
Read the charger’s required input, then confirm the wall adapter provides the specified voltage, current or USB Power Delivery mode. Use the supplied or specified cable as a control. An underpowered adapter or unsuitable cable can limit the pad before wireless transfer begins.
When comparing prices, record whether the adapter and cable are included. A pad-only listing can cost more to deploy after compatible components are added.
Choose the Form Factor around the Task
- Flat pad: compact and simple, but coil placement may require more care.
- Stand: easier screen viewing; verify portrait and landscape alignment.
- Magnetic stand or puck: can improve repeatable placement when phone/case geometry matches.
- Vehicle mount: must hold the phone securely and avoid blocking controls or airflow.
- Multi-device station: check each charging position and simultaneous power allocation.
Use a Controlled Slow-Charging Test
- Confirm the phone supports wireless charging.
- Use the pad’s stated adapter and cable.
- Remove the case, cards, metal plates and loose rings.
- Center the phone and test another orientation.
- Let the devices cool, then retest at a similar battery level.
- Cross-test one known-good phone or charger to isolate the component.
