8000mAh Power Bank Guide: Capacity, Charging and Travel

An 8,000mAh power bank stores about 29.6Wh when its cells are rated at 3.7V. It can offer more reserve than a 5,000mAh top-up pack while remaining smaller than many 10,000mAh models, but size, weight, delivered energy and charging speed must be checked on the exact product.

The capacity conversion is:

8,000mAh × 3.7V ÷ 1,000 = 29.6Wh

Rated Wh and Delivered Wh Are Different

The 29.6Wh rating describes stored cell energy. Voltage conversion, cable resistance, heat, battery management and the connected device use part of it. A product comparison should therefore distinguish rated Wh from measured output Wh.

Do not promise a fixed number of phone charges without defining the phone, cable, charging method and whether the phone remains in use.

Capacity Does Not Prove Fast Charging

Inspect the exact USB-C fixed PDO or PPS profiles, maximum current and port-sharing behavior. An 8,000mAh pack may support basic 5V charging or a higher USB Power Delivery profile; the capacity label alone does not decide. The phone and cable must support the same path.

Also record recharge input. A pack that recharges slowly may be inconvenient even when its phone output is adequate, especially between travel days.

Check the Actual Size, Weight and Label

An 8,000mAh model can be practical for commuting or a day trip, but compare measured dimensions and weight instead of relying on “slim” or “lightweight” language. At about 29.6Wh it is below the FAA’s 100Wh passenger threshold, yet spare lithium batteries still belong in carry-on baggage and airline rules can be stricter.
