A phone-to-projector HDMI connection works only when the phone supports a wired video-output path and the adapter matches that path. USB-C shape alone does not prove DisplayPort Alt Mode. Then match the projector’s HDMI input and supported resolution, connect directly first, and add hubs, wall plates or long cables only after the simple path works.
Verify Wired Video Support for the Exact Phone
Check the phone manufacturer’s specification or support page for external display output. Some USB-C phones support DisplayPort Alt Mode; others use USB-C only for charging and data. A passive USB-C-to-HDMI cable cannot add video hardware or protocol support that the phone lacks.

Choose the Simplest Compatible Signal Path
Start with one adapter and one short HDMI cable. VESA explains that DisplayPort over USB-C depends on a USB-C port implementing the Alt Mode; the connector by itself is not evidence. Apple’s USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter is an example of an exact-model adapter with device and output conditions—its specifications do not prove third-party adapters or unrelated phones.

Connect and Configure in a Controlled Order

- Attach the adapter to the unlocked phone.

If the Projector Shows No Image or No Audio
Confirm the projector input, then reconnect the adapter and cable. Test a known-good HDMI cable and a direct projector path. Remove docks, receivers and wall plates. Check whether the phone supports wired video at all. If the home screen appears but a streaming app stays black, investigate app or content-protection restrictions rather than replacing the cable immediately. For missing audio, select the HDMI output in the phone or app when available and check the projector’s audio routing.
