For a TCL TV, choose the HDMI cable by the highest mode you will actually use. Premium High Speed is the practical target for 4K60 HDR. Use a certified Ultra High Speed cable for 4K120, VRR or other HDMI 2.1 high-bandwidth modes. eARC first requires the correct ARC/eARC-labelled TV port and settings; buying a more expensive cable cannot activate a feature the TV or source port lacks.

The Port Can Matter More Than the Cable
TCL models can assign high-refresh and ARC/eARC functions to specific HDMI inputs. Connect the source’s HDMI OUT to the intended TCL HDMI IN, select that input, and confirm the port label/manual before changing cable types. A console connected to the wrong port may remain at 4K60 even with an Ultra High Speed cable.

For a Soundbar, Validate Audio Separately
Connect the TV’s ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s ARC/eARC output, enable CEC and choose external audio. If video works but sound does not, follow the HDMI ARC no-sound sequence before replacing the cable.
What Not to Overpay For
A certified cable that reliably carries the selected digital mode does not make colors sharper than another cable carrying the same mode. Price differences can still reflect connector construction, jacket rating, active electronics, warranty or long-run design. Evaluate those features against the installation rather than vague “premium picture” claims.
- Do not buy Ultra High Speed only because the TV has an HDMI 2.1 menu.
- Do buy it when the source and selected TCL port will actually run 4K120/VRR-class modes.
- For in-wall installation, verify the required local cable rating before pulling the cable.
Long Runs and Failure Symptoms
At higher data rates, long passive copper runs become less forgiving. For wall or ceiling routes, qualify the complete installed length before closing the surface. Active or optical HDMI can help at distance but may be directional.
