Wireless charging sends power across a small air gap by magnetic induction. A powered transmitter coil creates a changing magnetic field; a receiver coil in the phone converts that field back into electrical energy for the charging circuit. The charger and device also communicate so the system can control power. Alignment, separation, the phone case, heat and the capabilities of the charger, device and power adapter determine the result.

Wireless Charging in Five Steps
- The charger receives power. Its electronics drive alternating current through a transmitter coil.
- The transmitter creates a changing magnetic field. The useful coupling area is close to the charging surface.
- The receiver coil captures energy. A compatible device placed over the transmitter coil develops an induced electrical current.
- The device conditions the power. Receiver electronics convert and regulate the current before it reaches the battery-management system.
- The two sides control the session. Communication lets a standards-based system request and adjust power rather than applying one fixed output blindly.
The Wireless Power Consortium describes Qi as an interoperable wireless-charging standard. A Qi logo or magnetic ring is not, by itself, proof of the exact charging power: certification, device implementation and the complete power path still matter.
Why Alignment, Distance and Heat Matter

Energy is lost in every conversion stage, so wireless charging can feel warmer than a comparable wired session. Warmth alone does not identify a fault, but repeated charging interruptions, warnings or unusually rapid heating call for stopping the session and checking the device and charger instructions.
Compatibility Does Not Guarantee the Highest Power
The phone, charging pad and power adapter must share a supported mode. Some products charge a broad range of Qi devices at a baseline level but reserve a higher mode for particular certified combinations. Treat wattage as an “up to” capability, not a constant battery-input measurement. Battery state, temperature and system control can change power during the session.
Fix Slow, Interrupted or No Wireless Charging
- Confirm the exact phone supports wireless charging and remove shipping films or accessories between it and the pad.
- Center the phone, then rotate or shift it slightly to find the coil position.
- Remove the case and any metal plate, wallet, card or adhesive ring for a clean comparison.
- Use the charging pad’s specified cable and power adapter.
- Let an overheated phone cool naturally, then test again in a ventilated location.
- Test one known-compatible phone or charger to identify which side of the system is failing.

Choose the Setup by Device and Location
- Bedside: prioritize stable alignment, low light and a pad that does not require repeated repositioning.
- Desk: a stand can keep the screen visible, but confirm the receiver coil aligns in portrait and landscape if both matter.
- Vehicle: use a mount that holds alignment through vibration and allows airflow around the phone.
- Shared area: choose certified interoperability and clearly mark the compatible charging zone.
Wireless charging is best understood as a controlled system, not a property of the pad alone. Start with the device documentation, match the certified charging mode, and troubleshoot the complete chain.
