How Many Hours Does a 10000mAh Power Bank Last?

A 10,000mAh power bank does not have one fixed runtime in hours. Using a transparent planning model, a 10,000mAh/3.7V pack contains about 37Wh and provides about 25.9–31.5Wh after applying 70%–85% usable-energy endpoints. That is roughly 5.2–6.3 hours at a steady 5W load, 2.6–3.2 hours at 10W, or 1.3–1.6 hours at 20W.

Convert Capacity to Usable Energy, Then Divide by Load

Rated energy: 10,000mAh × 3.7V ÷ 1000 = 37Wh. The example then applies 70% and 85% as sensitivity endpoints, giving 25.9–31.5Wh available to the load. These endpoints are planning inputs, not a measured category average or a promise for a specific model.

Estimated runtime: usable Wh ÷ average device watts = hours.

Real loads fluctuate. Conversion efficiency, voltage profile, cable resistance, temperature, battery age and the power bank’s cutoff behavior move the result. A device that negotiates a higher peak wattage does not necessarily draw that power for the entire session.

The voltage shown at the USB output also differs from the cell’s nominal voltage, so the pack must convert energy before the device can use it. That is why dividing 10,000mAh by a device’s current rating does not produce a reliable hour estimate. Work in Wh, then apply a measured or clearly stated usable-energy assumption.

  • A warmer or colder environment can change both charging behavior and available energy.
  • A thin or damaged cable can add loss or trigger a lower charging profile.
  • Using the phone while charging makes its net battery gain smaller.
  • Older cells may reach the power bank’s cutoff earlier than a new pack.

Hours and Full Phone Charges Are Different Questions

A phone changes its charging power as the battery state and temperature change, and the phone may also be used while charging. Measure the Exact Setup When Runtime Matters

  1. Fully charge the power bank and allow it to return to room temperature.
  2. Connect the intended cable and device or a defined electronic load.
  3. Use a USB power meter to record delivered Wh, average watts and cutoff point.
  4. Repeat under the same starting conditions and report the range rather than a single best run.

Do not continue a capacity test if the pack swells, smells unusual, leaks, smokes or heats rapidly.
