To charge a laptop from a power bank, match the laptop’s required USB-C Power Delivery input profile, not just the power bank’s capacity or largest wattage. Then check usable energy in Wh, sustained single-port output, cable capability, shared-power behavior and recharge time. A large mAh number cannot compensate for an unsupported voltage profile.

Start with the Laptop, Not the Power Bank
Check the laptop maker’s specification for USB-C charging, accepted voltage/current profiles and recommended adapter wattage. A USB-C port may support data only, video only, charging only or a combination. Some laptops require a proprietary connector or will charge slowly from a lower-power USB-C source.
If the laptop normally ships with a 65W adapter, a power bank advertising 100W can be suitable only if it offers a compatible output profile on the port being used.
Use Watt-Hours for Energy Planning
Convert capacity using Wh = mAh × nominal voltage ÷ 1,000. The mAh-to-Wh calculator handles the arithmetic. Stored battery Wh is not identical to output Wh because the power bank consumes energy while converting and regulating voltage.

Record the Exact Port and Shared-Power Rule
Read the fixed PDO and PPS/EPR declarations for the intended USB-C port. Then check what happens when a phone or second laptop is connected. A headline total output can be split across ports, reducing the laptop port below its required level.
Cable power capability is separate from data speed. Use a cable rated for the required current and power; do not assume any USB-C cable is interchangeable.
Estimate a Range, Not a Guaranteed Number
A planning estimate needs the power bank’s usable output Wh and the laptop’s real workload. Office work, video calls, rendering and gaming draw different power. The same bank may extend runtime substantially under a light load but add little time while the laptop is operating near its full adapter rating.

For a defensible test, start at declared battery states, hold workload and screen settings constant, record power-bank output, and stop at a defined cutoff.
High Output Still Has a Travel Boundary
For flights, check the printed Wh rating and current airline/route rules. FAA passenger guidance uses 100Wh and 160Wh boundaries for spare lithium batteries; a laptop-capable pack is not automatically travel-approved because it is marketed as portable.

- Test single-port charging at a fixed workload.
- Add a second device only when multi-port behavior matters.
