“Power brick” can mean an AC wall adapter, a laptop charger or, informally, a portable battery. For a wall charger, match AC input, plug type, USB Power Delivery profiles, per-port output, multi-port allocation and cable capability to the device. Physical size or a large wattage on the label does not prove compatibility or safety.

AC Input and Plug Type Are Market-Specific
Check the printed input voltage/frequency range, current, detachable or fixed plug, regional pin configuration and any approved interchangeable heads. A travel plug adapter changes the physical interface; it does not convert voltage or certify the charger for another market.
For a detachable mains lead, verify the appliance connector and lead rating as part of the complete system. For folding pins, inspect retention in both open and closed positions. Do not use a loose travel adapter or stack multiple plug adapters to support a heavy charger.
Match the Device’s Required Profile
A USB-C port negotiates a supported power contract. Compare the charger’s fixed PDO and PPS profiles with the laptop, tablet or phone. A 100W total rating does not guarantee that every port offers 100W, and the cable’s power capability is separate from its data speed.

Multi-Port Chargers Reallocate Power
Record output with one port, each two-port combination and all ports active. Some chargers renegotiate when a device is connected, which can briefly interrupt charging. Publish the allocation table for the exact model instead of a single total wattage.
Heat and Safety Need Product-Level Evidence
- Check applicable safety certification and the exact model/market listed.
- Inspect enclosure, plug retention, spacing and cable strain relief.
- Test temperature at stated ambient conditions and loads.
- Stop using a charger with cracks, loose pins, arcing, discoloration, smoke or a burnt odor.
- Do not cover the charger or use it where ventilation is blocked.
IEC 62368-1 is a product safety standard for audio/video and information/communication technology equipment. Compliance claims still need documentation for the complete product, not a generic reference to the standard.
