Certification applies to the exact cable product submitted to the program. It does not prove every device port, adapter, wall plate or longer cable in the chain.

Choose from the Source-to-Display Mode
- 4K60 HDR: Premium High Speed is a sensible starting category when the exact color/bit-depth combination fits the device chain.
- 4K120 or VRR gaming: use Ultra High Speed when the source and display require the 48Gbps-class cable path.
- ARC/eARC: confirm the TV/audio ports, settings and required audio formats; a new cable cannot enable a missing port function.
- 1080p or basic streaming: buy the category required by the devices rather than paying for an unused headline.

Authenticate the Exact Cable Label
- Look for the official certification label on the package.
- Use the official HDMI Cable Certification app/workflow described by HDMI Licensing Administrator.
- Confirm brand, product and length match the item being purchased.
- Do not treat a generic “Premium,” “8K” or “HDMI 2.1” marketing badge as the certification label.
- For bulk purchasing, keep the approved package/label and exact SKU in the receiving record.
Certification is valuable evidence for cable-category capability, but it is not a factory defect-rate, bend-life or field-compatibility test. Those claims need separate records.
Length and Installation Still Affect the Decision
Buy the shortest practical cable that reaches without strain. Long passive routes, couplers and wall plates reduce margin. For a longer installation, test the exact cable length and consider an authenticated active or optical solution that declares the required mode. Directional active cables must be installed source-to-display.
For in-wall work, check the applicable building rating and connector clearance. Test before closing the route, then retest at the full mode after installation.
Diagnose the Whole Chain Before Replacing the Cable
- Use the correct HDMI input and enable the device’s enhanced/high-bandwidth port mode if required.
- Test with a short known-good certified cable.
- Remove adapters, splitters, receivers and wall plates.
- Lower refresh rate or HDR to establish a stable baseline.
- Update firmware only from the device manufacturer.
- If the short path works and the installed path fails, test the exact long cable and intermediate components one at a time.
