For a PS3 fleet or resale kit, buy a sound HDMI cable of practical length and validate the exact console–display chain before approving a batch. The PlayStation 3 does not gain 4K120 or 8K output from a newer cable label. Procurement value comes from stable connectors, repeatable sample approval, installed-length testing and a clear no-signal check—not excess headline bandwidth.
Define the Console and Display Chain
Record the PS3 model, display or capture device, receiver or soundbar, cable length and enabled video/audio settings. Sony’s PS3 documentation explains HDMI output configuration and supported display selection. A cable category does not override the console’s source format or a display’s accepted input.

Freeze a Known-Good Sample Before Bulk Approval
- Connect one PS3 directly to a known-good display.
- Configure HDMI output using a resolution the display accepts.
- Run the exact proposed cable length long enough to expose intermittent dropouts.
- Add the receiver, switch or wall path only after the direct chain passes.
- Record the cable marking, connector construction, packaging and sample identifier.
- Use the approved sample as the comparison point for delivered batches.
A batch record should state the test chain and pass/fail rule. “Works with PS3” is too broad when displays, audio routing, output settings and cable paths differ.
Separate Cable Failure From Configuration Failure
Before rejecting a lot, compare the suspect cable with a known-good cable on the same PS3 and display. Verify the television input, PS3 video-output setting, receiver path and connector condition. If both cables fail, the result does not isolate the cable. If only the suspect sample fails repeatedly on the approved direct chain, quarantine that sample and inspect the lot under the recorded plan.
