A “screen mirror HDMI cable” works only when the source can output video through the selected port and every adapter in the chain supports that signal direction. First confirm the phone, tablet or computer’s video-output capability. Then simplify to one known-good adapter or direct HDMI connection and one display.
USB-C Shape Does Not Guarantee Screen Mirroring
A laptop with a native HDMI output can normally use a direct HDMI cable. A phone, tablet or USB-C laptop needs an output path documented by the device maker, such as DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt or a model-specific display adapter. A charge-only USB-C port cannot be upgraded to video by a passive cable.

Direction and Adapter Capability Must Match

“Screen mirroring cable” is a use description, not an HDMI cable category. If a product combines conversion electronics and a cable in one housing, its supported source devices, output resolution, direction and any external power requirement must be specified separately.
Select the Correct Display Input and a Conservative Mode
Choose the HDMI input actually used, then start at a common resolution and refresh rate. On a computer, select duplicate/mirror or extend in display settings. A Working Desktop Does Not Prove Every App Can Mirror
If menus and the desktop appear but one streaming app shows a black screen, the cable may already be carrying video. Content-protection policy, application behavior, account restrictions or an unsupported capture path can block that content. Test local non-protected content before replacing hardware.
Use a Controlled Five-Step Test
- Confirm the exact source model supports external video.
- Connect one adapter and one short known-good HDMI cable directly to one display.
- Select the correct display input and a basic output mode.
- Reconnect adapter power if the design requires it.
- Add docks, extenders or higher display modes one at a time.
