Choose a wireless power bank by phone compatibility, magnetic alignment, certified charging profile, usable wired backup, capacity in watt-hours and travel needs. Wireless charging is convenient but sensitive to alignment, case thickness and heat. A magnetic pack can improve positioning, but a magnet alone does not prove Qi2 certification or a particular charging speed.

Read Capacity as Energy, Not a Guaranteed Charge Count
A battery’s mAh rating needs its nominal voltage to convert to watt-hours. Wireless transfer, conversion electronics, phone charging and simultaneous use all reduce the energy that reaches the phone. Use the mAh-to-Wh calculator for transparent capacity comparisons.
- Choose a smaller pack when thickness and daily carry matter most.
- Choose more Wh when you need several devices or multiple days.
- Verify a wired USB-C output when you may need faster charging or charging during poor wireless alignment.
- Do not infer usable output Wh from the cell mAh number alone.
Treat pass-through charging as a model-specific feature. Confirm whether the pack can recharge itself while charging a phone and how its output changes in that state.
Alignment, Case Fit and Temperature Affect the Session
Center the charging areas and remove metal objects, cards or loose rings between the phone and pack. A thick or poorly positioned case can weaken coupling. Charging may slow or pause when the phone or power bank becomes warm; this is not automatically proof of a defective battery.
Stop using the pack if it swells, leaks, emits an unusual chemical odor, smokes, hisses or heats rapidly. Normal warmth and an active battery incident are different conditions and require different handling.
Check the Watt-Hour Label Before Flying
FAA guidance treats power banks as spare lithium batteries: they belong in carry-on baggage, not checked baggage. Airline and route rules can add restrictions, so confirm the printed Wh rating and carrier policy before travel. Protect exposed ports and prevent accidental activation.
